Frank Sorensen, M.Ed, LMHC, LCDP is a psychotherapist with over twenty five years experience counseling adolescents and adults with mental health and substance abuse issues. He has worked with diverse populations in various clinical settings such as hospital, prison, residential and intensive outpatient treatment programs. Frank obtained his Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from Cambridge College and his CAGS degree {Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies} from Rhode Island College.

Frank has a deep respect for each individual he encounters in his practice. He sees the innate goodness and the potential for wholeness in every person. He incorporates traditional therapy along with Buddhist principles of mindfulness and meditative practices to enhance and support well-being and personal growth, and as a vehicle to increase awareness and open a path to resolve your presenting concerns.

Frank is a Licensed Chemical Dependency Professional and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Rhode Island. Frank has extensive training and experience in trauma resolution work to counsel those impacted by death, war, childhood abuse, illness, grief and loss. Frank has worked as a clinician and manager at Samaritan Village, Phoenix House and Adcare Hospital. He also has extensive experience providing services to Pre-Trial, Federal and State Probation and Parole, Family Court and DCYF. 


Maria Sorensen, MA, LAADC, SAP is a holistic and integrative psychotherapist. She is the co-founder of Healing Arts in North Kingstown, RI. She obtained her Masters degree in Holistic Counseling from Salve Regina University in 1996.

Maria specializes in trauma work and is certified in EMDR {eye movement desensitization reprocessing}. She received her training in trauma resolution using EMDR at the Child Trauma Institute. She is trained in Ego State Therapy and she is a certified clinical hypnotherapist. She completed Level One IFS training and she is an IFS Program Assistant. at the IFS Leadership Institute. 

She is an addiction specialist who acquired her license with the State of Rhode Island as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Professional in 1995.  Maria is an independent professional family interventionist with a strong 12-step background. She is a fully qualified and trained Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) under the US Department of Transportation regulations. 

Maria respects the individuality and uniqueness of each person. Depending on a person's needs, she is able to integrate holistic approaches such as IFS, EMDR, expressive arts, coaching, hypnosis, mindfulness, guided imagery, spirituality and Reiki along with traditional "talk therapy" to help facilitate the healing process.  

She has worked as a clinician at RI Employee Assistance Services {RIEAS}, Classical High School, The Providence Center, Domestic Violence Resource Center, Phoenix House, Woman & Infant’s Project Link and Memorial Hospital. She has extensive experience providing services to the DOT, the courts and DCYF. 

Maria began her own spiritual journey of recovery in 1976. Since her introduction to the 12 steps, she has been committed to recovery, spirituality and self-transformation. She has studied Eastern and Western philosophy and incorporates these principles into her work. Over the past 10 years, Maria has gained knowledge and experience working with the Shipibo shamans in Peru and serves as in Integration Therapist. Her interests include art, health, nature, nutrition and fitness. She lives in North Kingstown, RI with her husband and  their two puppies.
